Who is Dawn 'The Pet Nanny'?

My husband and I arrived in Melbourne in 2007 after emigrating from England. While in Melbourne I worked for Lort Smith Animal Hospital as an Animal Management Officer. Lort Smith are one of the largest animal hospitals in the world. I feel very privileged to have worked with a team of people who have such devotion and love for the animals in their care.

I worked within the animal shelters, both cattery and kennel’s taking care of stray, abandoned, unwanted and sick animals. This would include anything from dogs and cats to wildlife and farm animals.

Everyday was different as the hospital never knew what was going to come through the door next. I could be dealing with an aggressive or very scared dog, ferrel cats and kittens, injured wildlife or abandoned lambs/goats/chickens anything with fur, feathers or scales.

This is Larry the lamb at 2-3 weeks old.

Whilst at Lort Smith, one of the aspects of the jobs I enjoyed the most was temperament testing dogs. This was crucial in understanding what kind of home/family would be most suitable for each individual dog. After working with dogs for several years I now have a good understanding of the need for group socialising; grooming; exercise; behavioural training and ongoing mental stimulation.

Foster care was a vital part of what Lort Smith provided as so many animals needed temporary homes whilst awaiting adoption. As well as being a full time animal management office I also became a foster carer and have looked after multiple litters of kittens; dogs; puppies and on one occasion a 2 week old lamb (Larry as above) who needed bottle feeding.

In 2009 we moved to SA and lived in the northern suburb of Mawson Lakes where I set up my own pet minding business 'Dawn The Pet Nanny'. The business grow rapidly and I was honoured to be a finalist, twice, for the Australian Small Business Champion Award. I was extremley passionate about my business and offered a very professional and devoted service to all my clients and their beloved pets. I was able to help rehabilitate several clients' pets with various issues and was know locally as Dawn the dog whisperer. Please take a few moments to check out my testimonials.

After relocating to Queensland with my husband's job, I have decided to bring my skills and passion for animals to Mount Cotton. As your local pet minder and dog walker living in Mount Cotton I can promise you and your pets a personal, honest, reliable and caring service. I am the only one who will be looking after your pets so you can rest assured your pets will get consistency whenever you are away.
